There is a time and place for every type of coffee, sometimes an unapologetic double shot of espresso, other times a sugary cup of Dunkin. I think for the everyday, a pour over or Aeropress is where the everyman should anchor his morning.
These are my ratings for whole bean coffee that can be found in stores around the SF Bay area. I definitely prefer the lighter, more acidic and fruitier roasts so if you like it dark, this is not the list for you.
V60: dark, nutty flavor like chickory
Light body, nutty flavor. Very nice
V60: really light flavor of smooth chocolate, kind of neutral. But goes very well with pastries
V60: intensely dark flavor. I admit, I do like this dark roast. Chromatic really deserves all the praise it gets.
V60: refreshing, mid bright, tangy flavor
V60: light, tangy, almost not really coffee
Aeropress: very light, not a lot of flavor
V60: very Smokey but still clean, not really my style but might be much better out of an espresso machine
V60: a bit too much on the syrup note
V60: strong berry flavor on the nose; continued berry taste, a bit tart
3/5 - V60: very light flavor, has a tropical note up front and a bright finish. Mostly pineapple and a little bit of caramel. Needs more…
V60: not enough flavor Aero press: got a little more flavor but required sugar
Nothing special
V60: really no flavor Aero press: slightly better but needs sugar
