Horace & Dickie's Seafood

This seafood and soul-food spot has been around so long that it doesn’t have a website and never will. (It did, however, open a second location in the northwest part of the city.) Its no-frills attitude is why locals line up early for the fried whiting fish and crab cakes. The line moves fast, and make sure to smile: A friendly face will make you quick friends who will tell you all about the neighborhood. Don’t skip the sides — mac and cheese and hush puppies are favorites — and order bean pie for dessert. It tastes a lot like sweet potato pie. BTW: There’s no seating, so grab your takeout container and head south on 12th Street, where you’ll find several benches.
